Futures League finals

2006 Autumn Pennants Mens Monday Division 1.

The final was played at Mullaloo on Monday 26th June between Blue Gum 1 and Mullaloo 6.
First on court was Kasun Liyanaarachchi for Blue Gum (BG) against Joel Hetherington for Mullaloo (M). In a very hard and close fought encounter Joel triumphed 3-1. Next on court were the number 1's, Jason Patmore for BG and Cindy Meintjes for M. The match started at a furious pace with Jason taking the first game. Cindy managed to fight back in the second to level the match 1-1. However, Jason was too strong and took the next 2 games and the match 3-1. The night was now evenly poised, 1 match each and 4 games each. Last on was Brendan Baker for BG and David Miles for M. David took the first game. Brendan took the second game. Both players were starting to look a little worse for wear. Crowd support was getting very vocal. The third game was won by David, narrowly. The fourth game turn out to be a real humdinger. It seemed David had it when serving for the match at 8-5. David must have served 5 times for the match before Brendan leveled the game 8-8. Set 2 was called. The applause and encouragements coming from the spectators made it very difficuly for the players to hear the marker calling the score. After numerous handouts and a few game balls for Brendan, David was victorius 3-1.
A thrilling and enthralling match and night and well worth the time and effort for all those who turned up to watch.
So, Mullaloo 6 finished top after the round robin stage which earned them a dinner and won the grand final which earned them $500.
Well done Mullaloo 6 and well contested Blue Gum 1.

2006 Autumn Pennants Ladies Thursday Division 1.

Unfortunately the final did not take place as Mullaloo were given a walk-over by Cambridge in the grand final. Still, congratulations go to Mullaloo for winning the pennant and finishing top after the round robin stage. Well done girls.
